Devotional: What’s In A Name

DEVOTIONAL…What’s in a name?

For a child will be born to us, a Son will be given to us;
And the government will rest on His shoulders
And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.

In the play, “Romeo and Juliet”, Juliet asks this question: “What’s in a name?”
Well, it is a bit more complicated than the bemoaning of a love-sick teenager would see it.

Today we are looking at SOME of the names for Christ and how they are used throughout Scripture

Please watch this video: “That’s My King”

Romans 8:15 For you have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but you have received the Spirit of adoption, by which we cry, Abba, Father.

Revelation 22:16 I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the Bright and Morning Star.

Philippians 2: 9-11 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted Him, and given Him a name which is above every name:That at the Name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

John 1:49 Nathanael answered and saith unto him, Rabbi, Thou art the Son of God; Thou art the King of Israel.
Revelation 17:14These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for He is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with Him are called, and chosen, and faithful.

John 8:58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I Am.

Father God .
Oh the names mankind has given You
Trying to describe the indescribable Savior!
You, Mighty One
Called Yourself “I AM”
How awesome
With gentle simplicity and all authority
You embraced and defined Yourself to us
Today, Father, we stand in the gap for
Your persecuted children around the world
Asking protection, according to Your will
Please give us boldness to speak when and where
You open doors for us to do so
Let us recognize opportunities and seize them enthusiastically
To let others know WHO YOU ARE
Please show Yourself to us in new ways
And light a passion inside each one
To know and share with others
Just how WONDERFUL our Savior is!
Oh, how we love Jesus!
In every glorifying Name He has ever been given, we pray,

About voicevessel bwc

First, and most importantly, I love Jesus Christ and I trust in Him as my Lord and Savior. I was raised in a Christian home by a godly dad and mom (who planned and had me in July before turning 42 in August), and 5 older siblings. My father passed away when I was 7 and my mother (who went to be with the Lord in 2005 at 81) never remarried. As a child, I was bullied at school, so I did not have many friends. I didn't want to tell my mom this because I knew she had enough worry being a widow at 50. I know what it is like to be lonely. As an adult, God showed me the value of His Friendship and has blessed me, too, with rich relationships with dear friends who also love the Lord. My husband and I (married 31 years as of 2020), have three wonderful, adult children and son-in-law as well as three darling grandchildren. Along with many others, my husband lost his job, but we refuse to be fearful or angry. The Lord has provided for us and we are so thankful for the opportunity to express gratitude through personal contact and occasional memories I share through writing. I believe the Lord has given me a venue to engage with others and a means to share His Word. Thank you for checking out my page. I hope you enjoy what you read. If there is anything positive or insightful in the devotionals (NOT CALLING MY WRITING "INSPIRED" by any means!), I give all credit and glory to Jesus Christ! On the other side of that, when something makes no sense, that's all me
