DEVOTIONAL
Luke 12:15 And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.
1 Timothy 6:6-8 – “But Godliness with contentment is great gain, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content.”
The Apostle Paul wrote about contentment and he certainly was well aware of the extremes in lifestyle.
Certainly he had his share of struggles and trials. How did he handle these issues? He certainly was not impressed with himself, going so far as to refer to himself as “THE CHIEF OF SINNERS” (1 Tim 1:15). Clearly he intended no one to accept his standards as those we should strive to achieve. Paul’s life goal was to vanish in the background so Christ would be all anyone saw when they looked at him.
Without giving him undue attention, can we hope that our husbands will take note of Paul’s ability to adapt, regardless of circumstances.
Let’s continue considering: Take a close look at Jesus Himself, who stepped out of Glory…..GLORY.. to live down here, love on, minister to and freely hand over His life as the One and Only Sacrifice for all sins for all time.
Jesus didn’t have a HOME on earth.. no physical address~He wasn’t born in a time with the modern conveniences we have now… No television, Internet.. no BATHROOM.. not even a bed…. From the presence of the Father in Paradise to sleeping on the ground, resting His majestic head on a ROCK without COMPLAINING..personification of perfection, indeed!
Did he ever mention being discontent or whine about where He was, why He had to be here to endure such grotesque torture, humiliation and eventual death so self-consumed, disobedient humans could enjoy being co-heirs with Him… for ETERNITY?
Prayer
Almighty God and King
You are Supreme Ruler
We ask that You will put contentment in the heart of each man represented here
Thank You for the life of every husband
Each man was created for a reason, Father God
Perhaps some of them have found that and are following Your will for their life
For that we do give You praise
Merciful Lord, for those who do not believe in You
Or for those who do know You, yet are not walking in the path You have chosen for them
Please put Your Word in their hearts
Lord, we just ask that they will find peace and contentment in obeying You
God we pray that if they are not doing as they should, You will just give them direction
A willingness and strong desire to turn away from anything displeasing to You
There is nothing they cannot put down in Your Power
Almighty, please keep them content in their relationship with us
The wife of their youth as says in the Scriptures so eloquently
Keep their desire for only us and ours for them alone
We ask that their jobs, hobbies, interests, pass times be appropriate
If not, we ask that they will be convicted and turn from it
As that will not bring them peace or contentment as the world promises
It only drives a wedge more and more between them and You and us
Let the only discontentment they experience
Be the yearning and burning within them to know You more
Letting go of who they are
To be molded into the man the Creator hand-crafted
Let them be satisfied and appreciate good health
If they are unhealthy or have habits that cause them to be
Lord, just please unshackle them from whatever threatens to consume
Restore them according to Your will, O God
You are the Mighty Lord who can do things
As humans we do not and cannot fathom
Whatever You answer
Yes
No
Not yet
Please give us grace to accept Your timing
Let us recognize Your work
And give praise
Even if the answer is not what we hoped for, wanted or expected
For we know Your decision in wise
Please keep our hearts content in Your will
In the Name of Jesus, Name above all names
AMEN
