2 PETER 3:8
But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day [is] with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
Today Charles left to go back to school after church. My cousin and I were bemoaning the fact that we will be empty-nesters and about how much we miss our kids being at home.
Now he was gone less than a week, but it seems that every time my children come and leave again, they take a piece of my heart with them. My eyes get a little tear as I watch the car pull out of the drive and down the road, finally out of sight.
Why is it that it seems like their growing up and time they come to spend for a visit, both fly by so quickly?
I rather like the “thousand year” concept. (Not counting argument over messy bedrooms, things strewn all over the house, dirty plates or glasses are found right after starting the dishwasher or the contest to see who gets control of the tv remote first, I am talking about the good times). I somewhat like the concept other nationalities have where many generations live under the same roof.
Granted, I do not want the absolute necessity to be forced into that arrangement, but do I think that many younger children, pre-teens and young adults are missing out quite substantially by not having enough exposure to their elders.
Although the times together flee quickly, let’s stretch those experiences together out as long as we can through sharing memories. TAKE PICTURES and JOURNAL funny and special times…such is the way history is preserved.
PRAYER
Almighty God
Thank You for our family and friends
We appreciate the time we get to spend together
Please be the focus of our lives
Glorious Savior and Lord
We need You to be our Anchor
Father, how we look forward to eternity with You
Theoretically, we can calculate 1000 years
But, O God
How amazing it will be to spend every moment with You
Father, our concept of time is so limited
Our vision is narrow
But You
The ALPHA and OMEGA
The One Who Was, Is and Is to Come
You hold time in Your hand
Throughout our lives, Blessed Lord
We have faced
Or will go through times
Of agony and pain
And also, I pray, of extreme gladness
Please give us the wisdom to appreciate the wonderful
And peace as we persevere through times of distress
As Your children, we are picked up and cradled in the comfort and safety of Your soft and gentle wings
When we are sorrowful, You give comfort
In moments of triumph, You allow a sense of accomplishment
More than that, though, You give us an opportunity to turn praise back to You
May we live our lives for You, Almighty
No prize would be greater than to hear “Well done, My Good and Faithful Servant.”
Help us, please, show us how to get there from where we are right now.
We long to bring gifts to the One Who gave us life!
In the Name of our Precious and Perfect Savior, Jesus
AMEN
