Matthew 11:30
For My Yoke is easy, and My Burden is light.
This morning talking to my friend,Carolyn, I was given the idea for today’s devotional. The Lord is spectacular in the many ways He uses to bring about topics.
Carolyn was talking about cleaning out her purse, all the mess that was in it and how it got to such shape!
It dawned on us as we spoke, this is how we are with the Lord; hauling things around that we have no business carrying any more.
Why on earth do we need a receipt from 2013 for a container of ice cream or 3 open chap sticks?
When my husband, son and I were headed to meet the girls at the beach for two days..2..I threw in 5 shirts before I started considering how excessive that might be. Sadly, I didn’t unpack, I just shrugged and tossed in a few more!
Well, to be fair, to borrow one of my favorite terms my son uses (not), one never knows if a day’s activities might range from a long walk on the beach to dinner with a dignitary.
The same goes for our burdens or worries about the past, present and future. We foolishly lug everything around and exhaust ourselves in the meanwhile. Our Precious Savior is stands, welcoming, offering to carry it all! He is willing and more than capable.
Wouldn’t common sense suggest that we surrender all to Him. Had we really rather go through life bent over, red-faced and out of breath? We were not DESIGNED to carry our own burdens. Pride, a stubborn spirit and false sense of self-reliance will get us NOWHERE!
Nothing is too heavy for our Lord! Give it to Him and leave it alone! Whatever “it” is to you! He knows what do with things in our lives. He has no issue with purging it if it needs to be. Jesus can mend what needs to be repaired. He can heal, restore and revive! I don’t want anyone else’s baggage, do you? Goodness, it is hard enough dragging my own..by choice I struggle! Hello? Anything wrong with THAT picture?
PRAYER
Precious Savior and King
Thank You for offering to carry our burdens, Lord
You did not design us to hold on to our issues
We give You praise
That we are able to come to You in prayer
Through the blood of Jesus
And lift up to You what burdens us
So many times, in foolishness
Your children cling on to things
Not considering the cost in physical, emotional or spiritual health
Mighty Redeemer
Our Jesus held out His hands
Stretched out His arms as far as they would span
Showing us how much He is willing to take on our behalf
Praise the Name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit
In the Name of Jesus of Nazareth, Prince of Peace, Lamb of God
Amen
