Devotional: God’s Protection & Our Fears

Ephesians 6:12
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Several years ago, when the kids were in elementary school, I was home alone looking for something in the attic. I was all involved and focused on something I found in one of the boxes when suddenly I felt something tenderly clasp my shoulder. Needless to say, I was more than a little afraid, too much so to even mutter a word!

Now I couldn’t stay there like that of course, but whatever it was still had a hold on me in more ways than one! Gradually, I turned my head to the side, I saw nothing! This little exercise seemed to accomplish nothing but worry me even more, especially since I could still feel it right there, cupping right close to my neck.

Willies darted through my veins, chill bumps raised on my arms and little concerned tears started developing in my eyes. I drew a deep breath and turned my body slightly, trying to prepare myself to brace for whatever it was I might see. Finally, I caught a glimpse of my culprit! One of the Christmas candy canes for the yard had slipped quietly and with great ease and accuracy, with its rounded end, caught on to my shoulder!

This is the way the enemy can work in our lives. There are so many unseen things we are protected from, we may never know. In a world where wickedness runs amuck, I am so thankful that we have our Lord and Savior to battle against these monstrosities on our behalf.

As long as we live in a fallen world, evil things will surround us. Some are blatant, while other things are subtle, like that candy cane, just easing its way in, latching hold of us.

Do you have a “candy cane”? Have you been convicted that something latched on that you should take a closer look at and consider? Maybe, like I was anxious about what I would find, you are a bit apprehensive, but more willing to deal with the fear than face whatever it is head-on.

One thing is for sure, you can’t sit on the attic floor forever, you have to do that rotation. Discover, acknowledge and deal with it, knowing that God will be with you and give whatever strength, wisdom and courage you need.

When something seems to have you in its grasp, consider the Lord tells us that He has us in His hand. Are you just a pawn in a tug of war between evil and the Lord? No! Nothing can contest or stand against God’s authority! That battle for you has been fought and won, sisters!

My fear was so much greater than my enemy! How unnecessary was it for me to have spent even those few seconds, afraid of the unknown! Don’t waste another minute! Our Lord is powerful and no weapon, no plastic candy cane, satan’s strongest armies… not even death…nothing can stand against Him!

God is in control! With, through and in Him, we can prevail!

Prayer

Lord, in the Name of Your Precious Son, Jesus
We rebuke the powers of evil
Attempting to claim the hearts and minds You have given to us for Your glory

Please let us use all we are to serve and worship You, Almighty King
Father, You tell us that You have us in Your Hand
There is no greater security than this
Praise and honor unto You, O God
For this peace of mind

Sweet Father
We thank You for your protection
From things seen and unseen
We have no idea of everything You shield us from constantly

Lord, You tell us to be in but not of the world
Please help us as we distinguish those lines sin attempts to blur

We ask in Your Name
The grip of the enemy be released
We are Yours and You are our God

In the Saving Name of our Lord and Savior
Master, Teacher, Friend and Protector
Jesus Christ
AMEN

About voicevessel bwc

First, and most importantly, I love Jesus Christ and I trust in Him as my Lord and Savior. I was raised in a Christian home by a godly dad and mom (who planned and had me in July before turning 42 in August), and 5 older siblings. My father passed away when I was 7 and my mother (who went to be with the Lord in 2005 at 81) never remarried. As a child, I was bullied at school, so I did not have many friends. I didn't want to tell my mom this because I knew she had enough worry being a widow at 50. I know what it is like to be lonely. As an adult, God showed me the value of His Friendship and has blessed me, too, with rich relationships with dear friends who also love the Lord. My husband and I (married 31 years as of 2020), have three wonderful, adult children and son-in-law as well as three darling grandchildren. Along with many others, my husband lost his job, but we refuse to be fearful or angry. The Lord has provided for us and we are so thankful for the opportunity to express gratitude through personal contact and occasional memories I share through writing. I believe the Lord has given me a venue to engage with others and a means to share His Word. Thank you for checking out my page. I hope you enjoy what you read. If there is anything positive or insightful in the devotionals (NOT CALLING MY WRITING "INSPIRED" by any means!), I give all credit and glory to Jesus Christ! On the other side of that, when something makes no sense, that's all me
