Devotional: Employed By Man, Servant of God

Psalm 116:16
O Lord, truly I am Thy servant; I am Thy servant, and the son of Thine handmaid: Thou hast loosed my bonds.

Have you ever worked somewhere you really liked, doing something you actually enjoyed? Outside of motherhood my favorite position was as Office Manager.

Listening to My husband and many of my friends, there are so many struggles out in “corporate America”. I certainly do not miss that.

In keeping all things in perspective, when things get tough, try to keep in mind that we are servants of the Most High. Yes, our tasks may indeed be dictated by man, but we answer to the Lord for our attitude and integrity.

It is not easy waking up day by day, driving among craziness to reach a place filled with issues and coworkers who do not necessarily share your views on, well, much of anything! It does not take too much of this before you really start to get what the Scriptures mean when It tells us to pray without ceasing!

When things get hectic is not the time to START praying! Should we go to the Father then, absolutely! How would you like it if you ONLY heard from your children when they wanted or needed something?

Preventative measures are often taken for staying healthy, securing financial peace, and so many other things, but when it comes to matters of the heart and spirit, is there procrastination or reluctance to invest as much time and effort we can or should?

Accept it, no possession, prestigious position or title, education, nothing here on earth is designed to or capable of satisfying us. When eternity has been set in your hearts, Dear Friends, is there any wonder that everything else disappoints and falls woefully short, even your “dream job” or closest colleague. On God’s scales, one side holds all this world has to offer, the other cradles the Truth, which one carries the greatest weight?

PRAYER

Most High Lord
Glory to You
We give praise to the One Who gave His life to redeem us

Almighty Lamb of God
Please call to our hearts, minds and spirits
That what we do here on earth is serving You

Whatever tasks You call us to do
Wherever it is You want us to be
For whatever the duration You want us to do it
With a sincere heart, may we accept our position as YOUR servant

Being a business owner
An employee
A homemaker
Mother
Student
Whatever our title is
That, O God, is NOT our identity!

Regardless of the things we are asked to do
No matter how ridiculous, unorganized, mundane or absurd
Let our attitudes reflect to those around us as if You asked us Yourself
Because placing us in this time of our lives where we are, either by Your will or by consequences of our own actions
You have called us to where we are, as Esther, for such a time as this

You Are our Master
We serve only You
Those who look at us need to see You in us and through our words and actions
If we complain, grumble, gossip or show discontentment
How is that any different from those who are unbelievers?
Please let us consider that our actions and reactions are our testimony
As to our faith and obedience to You, Lord

Soften our hearts, please, Father
Show us when we need an attitude adjustment and let us not delay in asking forgiveness and making correction
Please give us wisdom and direction

You tell us that we are to be “in” not “of” the world
So knowing that we are expected to live among others who are unlike us
Let us show grace to them that You have so abundantly given to us!
Also, Lord, to our brothers and sisters in Christ
Please call to our attention that we are to be “like-minded”
Let us not draw out division for the sake of our own satisfaction
And selfish motives

Let us respect those who have been put in authority over us
Although we may disagree
Father God, we know that You are coming to call us home
And one day the pesky things of this world will all fade away

We are in a waiting room of Earth, O God
Where people are sick and ornery
Anticipating anxiously to meet the Great Physician

It is easy to consider others as hard to deal with many times
We all want our own way
Let us turn the mirror inward to see what we reflect
Please let our hearts mature to desire Your will

We repent of any distasteful attitudes or complaints
Please let us not infect others with a cynical, ungrateful mentality
Instead, God, let us have a contagious urging to
Glorify You by uplifting and supporting one another
Let us have hearts of genuine gratitude for the job we have
For the constant provisions You make for us

We rebuke in the Name of Jesus Christ
The attitude of entitlement to be “happy” in our earthly chores, duties and callings
And give praise for joy, peace and contentment that only comes through You, Precious Lord
May we find the freedom in being a child and servant of THE ONE TRUE AND LVING GOD!

Every time we open our mouths to complain, please give us pause to offer praise instead!
Please transform us, O God
Into children who live to please the Father in whatever we are called to do!

In the Name of Jesus
Amen

About voicevessel bwc

First, and most importantly, I love Jesus Christ and I trust in Him as my Lord and Savior. I was raised in a Christian home by a godly dad and mom (who planned and had me in July before turning 42 in August), and 5 older siblings. My father passed away when I was 7 and my mother (who went to be with the Lord in 2005 at 81) never remarried. As a child, I was bullied at school, so I did not have many friends. I didn't want to tell my mom this because I knew she had enough worry being a widow at 50. I know what it is like to be lonely. As an adult, God showed me the value of His Friendship and has blessed me, too, with rich relationships with dear friends who also love the Lord. My husband and I (married 31 years as of 2020), have three wonderful, adult children and son-in-law as well as three darling grandchildren. Along with many others, my husband lost his job, but we refuse to be fearful or angry. The Lord has provided for us and we are so thankful for the opportunity to express gratitude through personal contact and occasional memories I share through writing. I believe the Lord has given me a venue to engage with others and a means to share His Word. Thank you for checking out my page. I hope you enjoy what you read. If there is anything positive or insightful in the devotionals (NOT CALLING MY WRITING "INSPIRED" by any means!), I give all credit and glory to Jesus Christ! On the other side of that, when something makes no sense, that's all me
