DEVOTIONAL: Introducing The “New” Man~Total Transformation~Powered ByThe Lord

Ephesians 4:18 Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:19 Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.20 But ye have not so learned Christ;21 If so be that ye have heard Him, and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus:22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

Colossians 3:5 Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:6 For which things’ sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:7 In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them.8 But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.9 Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;10 And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of Him that created him:11 Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is All, and in all.

Praise God, Spring is in the air! The earth will soon burst forth with glorious colors and warmer weather.

It is a bit amusing to read posts on social media regarding the desire for change. All winter I have noticed those who are so anxious for a break from the cold; ironically, these are the very people who will make remarks by the middle of July about how ready they are for cooler weather!

I am a bit ambiguous about change. Sometimes I am all for it, if it involves anyone but me!Even in my prayer life, I am much more likely to ask God to change someone ELSE’S heart or mind!

On one show I like to watch from time to time, a person, “nominated” by friends and/or family, is chosen to go on a shopping spree with two “experts” in fashion, whereupon the individual is given $5,000 to get a new wardrobe. The caveat, they must take with them their current clothing to purge-no saving sentimental items, everything goes!

As the show progresses, the individual, many times with great resistance, transforms into someone more aware of how to dress more age and lifestyle appropriate through a series of clothing choices, change in hair and make-up style. The episode concludes with the person showing off the updated version of themselves and getting voices of approval for their transformation.
One of my all-time favorite actors was the late Andy Griffith. There is little on television, in my opinion, better than an episode of the Andy Griffith Show.

Enjoying law-related shows, I also liked Matlock, as it married together law and Andy. Playing a penny-pinching lawyer, “Matlock” was also very set in his ways, objected to change. Throughout the series, he was well known for wearing the same suit consistently.

One of the episodes actually featured a bit about his daughter and private detective attempting to nudge him into something new. The show ended with him being tickled that he indeed had a new suit, but it was identical to what he already wore. There was no distinction between the old and the new.

I have to say, I do not believe this was what the Lord is talking about when He mentions putting on the “new” man! We are definitely suppose to have a remarkable difference between who we were and who God wants us to be as new creatures!

Prayer
Heavenly Father
Thank You for this beautiful day

We give praise for Who You Are~

Lord, please give us wisdom, understanding and courage
Showing us that the new man is intended to replace,
Not fit over the old

Who You want us to be is a vast improvement of who we were
Not a replica, a mere updated version of our former selves

Father God, upon adoption by You
The rags of this world need to be cast out, forever

We need to look and act like a Child of the Most High
Not to say in physical clothing and tangible appearance
But in the adornment of the Spirit
Imitating the Father

We have no room to cling to the sinful garments of our past
Through Your power, we cast out our old wardrobe
There is no use for it
Because it no longer fits
Nor is it inappropriate for our Royal heritage

As we are nourished by the Truth of You Word
We are spiritually “outgrowing” our worldly attire

Thank You, God
For our salvation and reminding us who we are in You
You bless us with so much more than we could ever need, deserve or ask

In the Name of Jesus Christ,
AMEN

About voicevessel bwc

First, and most importantly, I love Jesus Christ and I trust in Him as my Lord and Savior. I was raised in a Christian home by a godly dad and mom (who planned and had me in July before turning 42 in August), and 5 older siblings. My father passed away when I was 7 and my mother (who went to be with the Lord in 2005 at 81) never remarried. As a child, I was bullied at school, so I did not have many friends. I didn't want to tell my mom this because I knew she had enough worry being a widow at 50. I know what it is like to be lonely. As an adult, God showed me the value of His Friendship and has blessed me, too, with rich relationships with dear friends who also love the Lord. My husband and I (married 31 years as of 2020), have three wonderful, adult children and son-in-law as well as three darling grandchildren. Along with many others, my husband lost his job, but we refuse to be fearful or angry. The Lord has provided for us and we are so thankful for the opportunity to express gratitude through personal contact and occasional memories I share through writing. I believe the Lord has given me a venue to engage with others and a means to share His Word. Thank you for checking out my page. I hope you enjoy what you read. If there is anything positive or insightful in the devotionals (NOT CALLING MY WRITING "INSPIRED" by any means!), I give all credit and glory to Jesus Christ! On the other side of that, when something makes no sense, that's all me
