Proverbs 25:28
He that has no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.
Have you ever been in this “place”, where you thought the best thing you could do for you and everyone else was for you to stay locked away in your room for the day?
Visiting one of my favorite thrift stores one time, I chose a sweater I liked. I could just imagine how cute it would look with something I had at home already. In my mind, I had the ensam neatly put together, earrings, necklace, hat, shoes-EVERYTHING…and then I goofed.
As I do, I shuffled through my buggy to find things I could put back to justify getting the sweater. I didn’t mind because as I said, I really, really liked it!
THE SNAG happened! In the process of looking for things to leave behind, the sweater, unknowingly got caught on a part of the shopping cart As I picked it up to put it in the front, to make sure it was not accidentally discarded, I noticed what I had done.
I do not sew or knit, although I know people who do, but the damage was so obvious by then, right across the front, I saw no way of repairing it.
Why do you think Scripture makes mention of self-control? What is the point? It even holds a position as a Fruit of the Spirit, so clearly the Lord holds it in high importance. What our Father finds so valuable, should we not consider likewise.
PRAYER
Merciful Lord
Thank You for each day You have given us
We pray that You will help us
Remind us to use self-control
You are with us, Father
In the darkest times
When temptation surrounds us
Moments when we are frustrated by life
By people or situations
God, please just put a guard over our mouths
And reveal, convict and correct the deceitfulness of our hearts
We ask that You bring light to what the real issues are
And why we find ourselves where we are
Father, in the Name of Jesus Christ
We rebuke those things distracting us from exercising
Self control
We give each and every situation over to You, Lord
Because in and through You, we have victory!
Your Word tells us in Galatians 5:22-23
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
Father God
Your Word is Truth
Please show Yourself through the choices we make and in our decisions
To handle this life You have given us with grace
In the Name of Jesus,
Amen
