Devotional: Consideration For The Weary

2 Thessalonians 3:13
But ye, brethren, be not weary in well doing.

For 50 years, my mom kept the nursery on Sunday mornings. She loved caring for children. I remember her telling me that by the time she “retired”, three generations from one family passed through those doors and into her hands.

Having a heart for kids apparently ran in the family. Her sister, in addition to caring for her family, fostered 49 children.

There are a few worker bees at the church I attend who do the work of many. Listening to them, I know they enjoy serving; however, at what point does someone else need to step up and help so they won’t grow weary?

There are things we can do as members of the Body to avoid “burn out” and exhaustion.

If you know what your gifts are, use them in a way to help when and where you can.

For those unaware of how they can contribute, pray and ask the Lord to reveal opportunities to serve.

I believe that just because a position is not “filled”, does not mean that someone should step in simply not to leave it vacant. God will provide His person at the right time. How is the Lord’s person going to fit if the slot is already taken?

As His children, we need to have our eyes and ears open to His leading so we follow His will and go where He intends, not where we don’t belong.

Take a glance around, are there servants who have been doing the same job for a long while who may want or need a break but do not want to step down or back because no one offers to come in behind them and offer a period of relief?

Time after time, I see these people at our church serving and more times than not, I do not notice many offering to help. Unfortunately, I am often oblivious or just lazy. I take for granted that things will get done and who will do it.

You know the bad thing, I many times have gone one into the sanctuary after a Wednesday night meal and left the cleaning up to these faithful children of God so I wouldn’t miss the SINGING! I am not quite sure what to make of that attitude. My heart is with those who are serving, but MY desire is to worship in song. The conundrum, either activity is worshipful!

I’ve been on the “tired” end, although I would not constitute my service as lengthy in any capacity. I have also witnessed people who, like Mom and others who seem to persevere for years!

I pray that those will obey their calling to step forward, lending a time for much needed rest and renewal to those who greatly need it!

PRAYER

Most Gracious Lord
Thank You for this beautiful day

We bring You praise for the talents and abilities You give us and chances to use them

Father, when opportunity presents itself and it is in Your will for us to take on Responsibility as a Member of Your Body, please reveal it and draw us into understanding and obedience
That we might glorify You

Please make us keenly aware of where and when we are needed
We do not want to be oblivious, Lord

Great Jehovah, please remind us to intercede for one another in prayer for endurance and encouragement

We ask that You give us words to uplift one another
Thank You for those blessed children who have the gift of encouragement, may they also be encouraged

Please revive us
Let us not be ashamed, afraid, embarrassed or too proud to ask when we need help

We ask that You show us when to step down or away from something we may have clung on to for longer than we should
Even in a position serving You, Glorious King, if we are not the right one to be in a particular position, we ask that we will recognize that and changes will be made to put in the person of Your choosing

Direct us to where we ought to be
Father
We want to be in Your will

Let us take courage in knowing it isn’t much longer until You come, O God
Isaiah 40:28-31 encourages us with these words: 28 Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.29 He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:31 But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
In the Name of Jesus we pray
AMEN

About voicevessel bwc

First, and most importantly, I love Jesus Christ and I trust in Him as my Lord and Savior. I was raised in a Christian home by a godly dad and mom (who planned and had me in July before turning 42 in August), and 5 older siblings. My father passed away when I was 7 and my mother (who went to be with the Lord in 2005 at 81) never remarried. As a child, I was bullied at school, so I did not have many friends. I didn't want to tell my mom this because I knew she had enough worry being a widow at 50. I know what it is like to be lonely. As an adult, God showed me the value of His Friendship and has blessed me, too, with rich relationships with dear friends who also love the Lord. My husband and I (married 31 years as of 2020), have three wonderful, adult children and son-in-law as well as three darling grandchildren. Along with many others, my husband lost his job, but we refuse to be fearful or angry. The Lord has provided for us and we are so thankful for the opportunity to express gratitude through personal contact and occasional memories I share through writing. I believe the Lord has given me a venue to engage with others and a means to share His Word. Thank you for checking out my page. I hope you enjoy what you read. If there is anything positive or insightful in the devotionals (NOT CALLING MY WRITING "INSPIRED" by any means!), I give all credit and glory to Jesus Christ! On the other side of that, when something makes no sense, that's all me
