Devotional: Hoping & Praying

1 Chronicles 4:
10 And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that Thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that Thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.

Okay, let’s read this carefully! Especially take note of the last sentence about the Lord giving Jabez what he requested.
Just think off hand what you want at this moment. Consider the situations or the things you have gone to the Lord about just in the past week.

Before you go to the Lord making requests, do you first consider what an answer might mean? You may want another job, but that means that you must leave or lose the one you currently have (benefits, salary and other incidentals you may not have considered). Let’s say you want a larger home, more space to clean, possibly greater taxes and dare I say, if you did not specify WHERE you wanted that new home to be, there is no telling where you could be.

“Well, God knows what I mean”, no argument there; however, when we ask for something, anything, isn’t the answer up to the GIVER? We are at His mercy, but friend, there is no greater place to be!

Increasing your territory could plant you anywhere in this great big world of ours! You could end up in a dream location (for me, it would be on the beach) or in a dingy prison cell because you proclaimed allegiance to Christ.

A prayer for blessing can also come in any form and at a cost we never considered. A contractor may need help financially, but on the other end of that, another family may have to scramble to find money to fix something that breaks. What is so amazing about all of these things that would drive a human to the brink madness without resolve, GOD IS IN CONTROL. There is not one single situation He cannot handle. Does it mean He cares more about the contractor than the other family, we all know the answer to that is “no”. He is there to work all things out that He may be glorified!

Lastly, we see that Jabez prayed for protection from evil, also, there is potential for that to make a momentous change in our lives. Just look at the martyrs today. Yes, they have faced death. but those who died for the sake of Jesus Christ. no longer endure wickedness.

Before we go running to the Father with our list of wants and needs, let’s carefully look at what they are. The most glorifying way we could pray is asking the Lord to have HIs way with us and for His will to be done. I know that can be intimidating, as we have no idea where that could take us either, but life will be so much richer out of our comfort zone with Christ than following our own agenda elsewhere!

Prayer
Lord our God
Thank You again for a wonderful day
We appreciate the breath You have given to offer praises back to You
Hallelujah, What a Savior!

Father, we ask that You give us wisdom as to what to ask of You
You know our hearts
You provide for us, O God

Sometimes as children of The King
We take on attitudes of entitlement
Forgive us, please for that

We deserve nothing and yet You continually bless us with so much
From life-saving salvation
To the chocolate chips in a cookie
O Lord, You are the giver of all perfect gifts
And we give You glory for that right now

May we never forget that it is You

Father God, have Your will in our lives
We know, Lord, that we can trust to pray this
Because Your Word reassures us that we can trust in You because You love us and
Mean good, not harm, for Your children

We want Your Name to be praised
Be glorified in our lives, O God
In what we say and do

Should we gain any praise
Father, we return it to our Savior
For He ALONE is worthy to be praised
Without the Lord, we can do nothing, but in and through Christ, we can do all things

To GOD BE THE GLORY!
In the Name of Jesus, Name above all names,
AMEN

About voicevessel bwc

First, and most importantly, I love Jesus Christ and I trust in Him as my Lord and Savior. I was raised in a Christian home by a godly dad and mom (who planned and had me in July before turning 42 in August), and 5 older siblings. My father passed away when I was 7 and my mother (who went to be with the Lord in 2005 at 81) never remarried. As a child, I was bullied at school, so I did not have many friends. I didn't want to tell my mom this because I knew she had enough worry being a widow at 50. I know what it is like to be lonely. As an adult, God showed me the value of His Friendship and has blessed me, too, with rich relationships with dear friends who also love the Lord. My husband and I (married 31 years as of 2020), have three wonderful, adult children and son-in-law as well as three darling grandchildren. Along with many others, my husband lost his job, but we refuse to be fearful or angry. The Lord has provided for us and we are so thankful for the opportunity to express gratitude through personal contact and occasional memories I share through writing. I believe the Lord has given me a venue to engage with others and a means to share His Word. Thank you for checking out my page. I hope you enjoy what you read. If there is anything positive or insightful in the devotionals (NOT CALLING MY WRITING "INSPIRED" by any means!), I give all credit and glory to Jesus Christ! On the other side of that, when something makes no sense, that's all me
