2 Corinthians 10:4-5
For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds Casting down imaginations and every high thing that exaulteth itself against the knowledge of God and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ
Oh my goodness, I have been working at this devotional for a long while and I just have not been able to connect the dots in points I was trying to make. I I just scrapped one entire work and started again. With prayer, I hope I’ve saved the one that makes some sense!
I don’t know if any of you out there are like this, but sometimes my thoughts just ping pong all over the place.
Working on this Ironman triathlon, it seems I have done that mind drifting even more the last two weeks! One would think (unless you knew me very well), I would have developed some awareness and not let my mind stray so much since that contributed to me bonking my head on the end of the pool TWICE because I wasn’t paying attention to where I was! Riding a stationary bike isn’t quite as bad (a little distraction is actually good there because I accumulate mileage before I know it).
Anyway, I was trying to work on the devotional and per normal, I got a phone call. It seems no matter what, if I start early or wait until later, the phone inevitably rings or I get texts right as I am in the heat of writing! I know, this is not the first devotional I have mentioned that. What did I suggest, put the phone AWAY! Sometimes listening to my own advice would not be detrimental, this is one of those times!
As I was writing earlier, I looked up and Jonathan was staring at me, telling me how “intense” I was in typing, ironic, huh! To others we may seem focused, but oh how quickly we can go off course!
When we recognize that our thoughts are going away from what they should be, that is time to reign them back!
Have you ever started thinking about something and the more consideration you gave it, the angrier, frustrated or bitter you became, I have! I’ve also been so annoyed or hurt then found myself at peace after gong to the Lord in prayer or singing hymns. If the same amount of effort can produce such dramatically different results, it really should be easy to determine which path to take.
Let’s learn from the verse in 2 Corinthians and when those stray thoughts threaten to undo us, let’s pull them up like weeds before they invade the peaceful garden the Lord sows with His Word.
Our Father plants words in our heart, mind and spirit, however, it is our responsibility, through His power, to carefully tend to what we have.
Thank You for another beautiful day
We give You praise for the sunshine and rain
Lord, we do pray for help in taking every thought captive
The enemy so delights when he can distract us from You
Father, we allow ourselves to get sidetracked far too often
We ask for focus to get done what we need to do
Please help us to avoid things, people and situations distracting us
When something unhealthy enters into our thought process, Lord
Please make us aware of the dangers in ruminating in it
You have not left us helpless
In and through Jesus Christ, we have can find the strength, wisdom and courage to rebuke whatever threatens to invade our minds.
According to II Timothy 1:7, For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. AMEN!
We know that if it were not possible to take thoughts captive
You r Word would not have directed us to do so
Let us glorify You in what we THINK, say and do, O God
Giving You praise for the mighty works You alone are capable of doing
In the Name of Jesus our King,
