Proverbs 20:12
The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, the Lord hath made even both of them.
Mark 4:9
And He said unto them, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
Mark 8:18-20
18 Having eyes, see ye not? and having ears, hear ye not? and do ye not remember?
19 When I brake the five loaves among five thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? They say unto him, Twelve.
20 And when the seven among four thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? And they said, Seven.
Have we tried to reason before with our children, yet they just did not seem to get what we attempted to convey?
How many times has our Father shown us something and we refuse to learn?
When I was (much) younger, I had to go to summer school because I was having a horrible time understanding a certain level of math. Boy, it was miserable! Others who were more mathematically-minded or who paid the least bit of attention to what was being taught, passed the course and enjoyed their summer. They were all outside enjoying themselves while I faced the consequences of ignoring what I was being taught !
My cousin who later got her degree in electrical engineering, tutored me (somehow, with great grace and patience) and I ended up with a high grade for the class. It wasn’t that I couldn’t get it after all, I just didn’t try! How frustrating! I put my own self in that situation just because I wasn’t willing to put forth effort! A man too lazy to plow his own field, forfeits the right to complain about hunger!
If we find ourselves in the same place again and again, WATCH, LISTEN and LEARN! Pray the Lord will bring a godly mentor into your life to encourage and hold you accountable.
Read and study God’s Word, seek His wisdom and ask for understanding and APPLY it to your life! God does not just want us to know the Truth!
Many days during the school year, I glanced at my book and occasionally did some homework, but when it came to the tests, I was lost! I knew bits and pieces here and there, but not enough to matter when I needed it the most!
Don’t get stuck in God’s summer school! Avoid having to repeat lessons! Study and put into practice what He says. Our Almighty Teacher knows what will be on each test. If have invested time and effort where He directs, you will be amazed, through His power, just how prepared you will be for those unexpected “pop” quizzes life throws your way all the way up to the major exams!
Only we can decide for ourselves what kind of student we will be for the Master!
PRAYER
Mighty Father
Master
Lord
Teacher
Please open our senses to learning from You, O God
We ask that You please keep our minds sharp
Shut our mouths, we pray, when we need to listen
Please open our eyes to see what you would have us to notice
Father, we ask that You help us avoid distractions
Looming around us
We so often and easily get side-tracked by any number of people or things
That is on us, Merciful Lord
We ask that You please help re-direct our thoughts back to where You want and need them to be
We ask that we will be obedient to You
You teach that we might learn
Not because You have nothing else to do
Forgive us for times we have not put effort into learning
Or apply the knowledge You have given us
We ask for wisdom, understanding, courage and perseverance to follow Your instruction from beginning to completion
That we may please You
In the Name of Jesus, Who did listen and see
Who obeyed to death, even death on the cross,
AMEN
