10 Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of My righteousness.
This was a good day in swim lesson world. There was one little boy who was not able to touch the bottom and when I took him out in the water, he first was holding on for dear life. I could read panic in this little one’s face as he got away from the comfort of the podium and wall.
The instructor was right there and I am there to assist her, but from the look in his eyes, I wondered if I was in over my head with that child.
He had a float belt on, so he was not going under, he just did not realize that quite yet. I looked at him and asked if he was ready to hold just my hands, one hand, one finger and he let out a screech of horror anyone at the gym could have heard!
“Look at me,” I told him. AS HE SQUEELED, I held up both of my hands. “You are doing it all by yourself!” First there was that quick tinge of uncertainty, but when he understood that he had what was necessary, it was all good. You should have seen the delight!
The Lord has fitted us with the Lifejacket of Salvation. Life may splash us in the face or cause anxious moments, but the Father is right there, watching, protecting, instructing us on what to do next. One significant difference here is that although the Lord does want us to realize the security of our salvation, He will NEVER LET GO!
God does not want us just bobbing up and down our entire lives, He wants us to employ the lessons He teaches us! We will never get anywhere if we don’t move!
Some of the children caught on quickly and kicked their legs, headed where they needed to be while others, bless their little hearts, just stayed put. They were floating and safe, supervised but not progressing.
Which Child of God are you, progressing toward the goal, tickled and eager to discover the purpose God has for your life, freaked out and timid, fearful to move out of uncertainty of the unknown or just treading life’s waters, unaware and disinterested of what your potential may be?
Thank You for being there
Our feet can’t touch the bottom, Lord
That’s okay, Merciful One
Because You have us!
We will not be afraid!
Let us please be bold
And rest in the hope we have in You
Please let us listen to You, Father
Let us take delight in what You teach us
May we employ what we learn
Let us please take those lessons and use them to progress and move toward the direction You have for our lives
