DEVOTION: Jesus ~Gentle Strength~Mighty God~

John 11:35
Jesus wept.

Succinct. Profound.

This verse shows us a glimpse into the soft, kind and compassionate heart of our Savior.

People react differently when they see others struggle. The Lord blessed me with a “tender” heart, so whenever I notice someone hurting, it pains me.

Those who are “tougher” aren’t wrong, they’re just different. The Lord designed this place to function with a balance of both.

One example of this is when we dropped our daughter off when she joined the ARMY. The drill sergeant was so loud, obnoxious and just, UGLY to those poor young men and women.

Their job was NOT to coddle them! Individuals were there to become soldiers and it was the job of their leaders to facilitate that process, which clearly did not involve pampering!

When I heard all of the yelling and commands, I was jumpy, so I could not even imagine the thoughts squirreling through the minds of those wide-eyed cadets!

My friend survived Army training, went on to serve our country and explained how harsh but necessary the firmness is. They MUST obey orders and focus is essential or lives are lost.

As much as I would love to have told them all was going to be okay and pat them on the back until that huge lump in their throat dissolved, it would not have been beneficial to their growth and development… but that was my baby! Yes, I did boo hoo that night as I thought of my little girl being berated!

It is with great pride and respect for my daughter, to say she has made it to the rank of sergeant. She does have those cold, piercing blue eyes of a soldier, but when her little girl runs into her arms, those quickly reflect a loving and adoring mommy! That tough young lady in camo melts at the sound of her baby’s voice. I thank the Lord that she is one of those who is capable of switching gears between scanning for threats to this country to her calling as mom to Baby K!

Some of us can be tough when we need to be and soft when we’re called, others just do not demonstrate a kinder edge and then some just do not have a harsh bone in their bodies! Our Lord Jesus, Perfect as He is, of course, is capable of all things!

Our God is THE Vindicator, He does exact justice and has been known to deliver His wrath upon the deserving, but He is also meek and gentle. No one need make the mistake that He is one OR the other. Scripture clearly shows His capability to be what He needs in His perfect timing!

prayer
Thank You, Lord
For being Who You Are
You are Mighty and Just
You are kind and loving

Thank You for showing us that You did weep
You are full of compassion
How you prove that over and over
How much more could You have
ever shown that than by giving Your life for ours

We give You praise for Your perfection
Your boldness
Your gentleness
Your sweetness
Your might
You ARE THE AWESOME GOD
You Are our God
And we are Your people
In the Name of Jesus
Amen

About voicevessel bwc

First, and most importantly, I love Jesus Christ and I trust in Him as my Lord and Savior. I was raised in a Christian home by a godly dad and mom (who planned and had me in July before turning 42 in August), and 5 older siblings. My father passed away when I was 7 and my mother (who went to be with the Lord in 2005 at 81) never remarried. As a child, I was bullied at school, so I did not have many friends. I didn't want to tell my mom this because I knew she had enough worry being a widow at 50. I know what it is like to be lonely. As an adult, God showed me the value of His Friendship and has blessed me, too, with rich relationships with dear friends who also love the Lord. My husband and I (married 31 years as of 2020), have three wonderful, adult children and son-in-law as well as three darling grandchildren. Along with many others, my husband lost his job, but we refuse to be fearful or angry. The Lord has provided for us and we are so thankful for the opportunity to express gratitude through personal contact and occasional memories I share through writing. I believe the Lord has given me a venue to engage with others and a means to share His Word. Thank you for checking out my page. I hope you enjoy what you read. If there is anything positive or insightful in the devotionals (NOT CALLING MY WRITING "INSPIRED" by any means!), I give all credit and glory to Jesus Christ! On the other side of that, when something makes no sense, that's all me
