DEVOTIONAL:  Re-connecting Relatives-Our Heavenly Father’s Power Restore & Revive Relationships

2 Timothy 4:7-8I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the Righteous Judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love His appearing.

2 Corinthians 5:8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.

Proverbs 16:24 Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.

Psalm 19:10 More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.

Sometimes we are just at a loss for words.  As I type this, my sweet cousin in her mid 50’s, who was married not too long ago, then discovered she had cancer, is walking her way toward Glory.

When I was younger, it seems I spent more time with my cousins, mostly when my Mom went to visit my grandmother. As I got older and had my own family, I lost touch with most of them.

Many of us have such “full” lives with immediate family and friends, church, organizations or activities, extended family relationships sometimes drift away as distant memories.

Unfortunately  if we pull out a photo of us with one or more of our  cousins,  aunts or uncles, we find ourselves explaining to our children who they are because they’ve never met.

Some people get on a website and search ancestors from many years ago, yet they are strangers to the living relatives nearby.

It seems like I have been to way too many funerals in the past few years.  I go, hug the necks of people I know and we talk about getting together.  We don’t. The next time we see each other is for yet another burial.

Why do we wait until our eyes are filled with tears and our hearts are heavy to gather?  Let’s get together in times of rejoicing and happiness.  Let smiles abound.

Let’s laugh together, learn about one another and share what our husbands, children and grandchildren are doing. Some of us have friends we’ve only known for a few years who know more about us than family members do.

The bad thing is when you see an e mail or  text from someone or notice certain people calling, you know that if it is them, something is either wrong or something major has happened in the family and usually not good.

I know life is busy.  Let’s find time to re-connect with aunts, uncles and cousins we may not have seen in forever and a day (unless the relationships are unhealthy or unwise to pursue).

PERSPECTIVE IS MUCH MORE QUICKLY AND EASILY LOST THAN FOUND.

When You became a Christian, the family grew!  Now, even if you don’t have many (or any) “blood relatives” to enjoy, there’s a world full of fellow brothers and sisters in Christ!  Celebrate Family!  By the way, technically, we are related through the Blood of the Lamb!

Don’t “cop out” and hesitate to connect by assuming you don’t have anything in common with some of those people.  Maybe their house is huge, perhaps they are more educated or whatever else,  GET OVER THAT!  Believer to Believer, What Greater   Bond than our SAVIOR?

BLESSED BE THE TIE THAT BINDS!

Prayer
Lord, thank You for the family You gave us
It is Your Divine Providence for placing us with certain people
As our relatives
Thank You for mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles Nieces, nephews and cousins

We bring You praise, too, Lord, for those who step up and in to be The family we need

You bless us with relationships, Lord
The most important of all, is ours with You
How honored we are to be allowed to call You
Both Father and Friend!

We love You, Lord
According to Your will, please open doors for relationships to
Be re-established or restored
Whether we are just disconnected or disrupted

Please give us wisdom as to how we should go about reaching out to Anyone we may have lost touch with in our family and
Allow communication to resume
If that is not what You would have happen, we ask that our efforts be blocked from progressing

Please be with my cousin, her family and everyone who is hurting right now.  Please offer Your peace that passes all human understanding. Be glorified, Almighty God!

The relationship we want to desire the most, Lord
Is the one with our Savior, Jesus Christ
Please give us a yearning to know and love our Redeemer more and more each day

Praise Your Holy and Beautiful Name Jesus
Amen

About voicevessel bwc

First, and most importantly, I love Jesus Christ and I trust in Him as my Lord and Savior. I was raised in a Christian home by a godly dad and mom (who planned and had me in July before turning 42 in August), and 5 older siblings. My father passed away when I was 7 and my mother (who went to be with the Lord in 2005 at 81) never remarried. As a child, I was bullied at school, so I did not have many friends. I didn't want to tell my mom this because I knew she had enough worry being a widow at 50. I know what it is like to be lonely. As an adult, God showed me the value of His Friendship and has blessed me, too, with rich relationships with dear friends who also love the Lord. My husband and I (married 31 years as of 2020), have three wonderful, adult children and son-in-law as well as three darling grandchildren. Along with many others, my husband lost his job, but we refuse to be fearful or angry. The Lord has provided for us and we are so thankful for the opportunity to express gratitude through personal contact and occasional memories I share through writing. I believe the Lord has given me a venue to engage with others and a means to share His Word. Thank you for checking out my page. I hope you enjoy what you read. If there is anything positive or insightful in the devotionals (NOT CALLING MY WRITING "INSPIRED" by any means!), I give all credit and glory to Jesus Christ! On the other side of that, when something makes no sense, that's all me
