Devotional: Disobeying God & Slippery, Painful Consequences

Jeremiah 7:23 But this thing commanded I them, saying, Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people: and walk ye in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well unto you.

This was the first day of new swim classes.  There are several darling children, some eager to learn, others, not so much.  The ones in my class are from 3 to 6 years old.

While the main instructor is out with one child, I attempt to keep the others corralled on a little platform.  This is not quite as easy as it sounds since many of them (mostly boys, just saying),  squirm, wriggle and jiggle about constantly.

When one child goes to potty, it’s usually a domino effect.  Typically  parents or a caretaker sits way down by the deep end so as not to distract the students.

During the second class, this little boy decided that he had to “go”. The tale-tale boy pinch made him pretty convincing!  As he got out of the pool,  I told him to get his mom’s attention and wait on her to notice so she could escort him to the bathroom.

Just when it looked like he was going to do just that, he took off toward her.  As “Don’t run” proceeded  out of my mouth, he slipped and fell, hitting his noggin on the floor.

After checking him out and making sure he was okay, the boy returned to the pool.  The lead instructor told the parents that he was asked not to run and the mom knowing her son, gave him a talking to about safety.

The Lord gives us directions, commandments and statutes to follow for the purpose of our protection and to bring Him glory through our obedience to His Word.

Have you ever suffered the consequences of disobeying God?  It can hurt, can’t it; nonetheless, our  Father scoops us up in His strong, loving arms and tends to our hurts.

Prayer

Mighty and Glorious King
Thank You for loving us

For the path You’ve set before us
For direction and guidance through Your Perfect and Inspired Word

Merciful and gracious Father
How amazing that You, Holy and Magnificent God
Are mindful of us

We come before You, seeking  strength. courage and perseverance
Determination to obey you

As we look to Calvary, we realize our Redeemer’s willingness to obey
To death, even death on the cross

Disobedience comes at the cost of  disappointing You
Please give our hearts desire for the reward found in pleasing our Father ! Be glorified!

In the Name of Jesus,
Amen

About voicevessel bwc

First, and most importantly, I love Jesus Christ and I trust in Him as my Lord and Savior. I was raised in a Christian home by a godly dad and mom (who planned and had me in July before turning 42 in August), and 5 older siblings. My father passed away when I was 7 and my mother (who went to be with the Lord in 2005 at 81) never remarried. As a child, I was bullied at school, so I did not have many friends. I didn't want to tell my mom this because I knew she had enough worry being a widow at 50. I know what it is like to be lonely. As an adult, God showed me the value of His Friendship and has blessed me, too, with rich relationships with dear friends who also love the Lord. My husband and I (married 31 years as of 2020), have three wonderful, adult children and son-in-law as well as three darling grandchildren. Along with many others, my husband lost his job, but we refuse to be fearful or angry. The Lord has provided for us and we are so thankful for the opportunity to express gratitude through personal contact and occasional memories I share through writing. I believe the Lord has given me a venue to engage with others and a means to share His Word. Thank you for checking out my page. I hope you enjoy what you read. If there is anything positive or insightful in the devotionals (NOT CALLING MY WRITING "INSPIRED" by any means!), I give all credit and glory to Jesus Christ! On the other side of that, when something makes no sense, that's all me
