D E V O T I O N A L: Our Lord Keeps Perfect Time-                                                                                   It Seems Like Forever, We’ve Waited For Eternity

Psalm 27:14
Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and HE shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.

“Heinz ‘Anticipation’ Commercial”

Who remembers these commercials about the ketchup with a claim that it was worth the wait?  Come on, now!  Most of us are old enough to recall, so own up to it!

When I walk in the door at home, I have one happy, happy miniature poodle, shaking her little nub of tail so quickly, her behind goes along with it!

Most of the day, at 16 years-old, she lounges around the house not doing much (a bit resembling a teenager left at his or her own whim, doesn’t it), but when Jonathan or I come in, she wiggles with excitement!  Her waiting is over and she is with us again.  I must say, it is nice having another living creature so happy to see me.

Of course it is priceless to get on Skype and have Katherine say, “Oma!” with a great big smile!

Lamentations 3:25 The Lord is good unto them that wait for Him, to the soul that seeketh Him.

Back in the day, when my children were youngsters, December 24th,  I would put a plastic (yard) candy cane across the top of the staircase and they knew that until that was taken down by mommy or daddy, they were not suppose to go down to the den.

Each Christmas morning, without fail, Jonathan and I would hear the scurrying about above us and the excited whispers of all three kids, sitting together on the top step, waiting.

Because they were so good and obedient to follow directions, we both got up and removed the barrier so they could go downstairs to open their gifts. To this day, I am very impressed and grateful that they would show so much restraint at such an early age. This trait was NOT inherited by me!

When I was in 11th grade, yes, a junior in high school, I asked for a letterman’s jacket.  Now I could  tell from the shape and size of one box, that was probably what I had. I just couldn’t take it any longer, so I peeked.
Just like anything enticing, I wanted to see it  better, so I folded the box down a little more.  Before I knew it, I tried it on to see how it would look!

I thought I had done all of this without Mom knowing (the perk of having  a mother who  had me at 42, I THOUGHT she could be out-witted, think again, I was the youngest of 6, she’d been there, done that!).

Christmas morning, I came casually strolling in the living room, having rehearsed my surprised look, little to realize it was going to be a genuine surprise.  The jacket was not under the tree!

I looked, couldn’t ask, so opened up everything else and sat there, baffled.  Mom had a great “poker face” but we were so much alike in certain, sneaky ways, I knew she was up to something! Was she waiting for me to ask?  How was I going to get up the nerve, after everything else she’d gotten me, to say “Is that it?”

About the end of the day, I passed by the tree and saw the box sitting there by itself, but with packing tape all around it.  We both knew but she wanted me to understand what it meant to wait on something.

One last story and I will start to bind this devotional to send in love to my precious sisters I have grown to love more and more each day!

One afternoon the kids were all in school and I was doing something in the house (housework seems highly unlikely).  when I heard this loud noise outside.  Without a thought to anything else, it came to me
“That must be IT!” The trump was sounding.. but wait, I was still there! I ran to the phone and called the most godly person I knew, Mom.  When she answered, I knew it must be something else.  I opened the door and they were running tornado siren drills!  RATS!

Every time we talk to Jesus, each verse, chapter and verse of Scripture we read, we unwrap a little more of Who our Savior Is!  Just think of the delight awaiting us when He is revealed in His full Glory!

As mentioned in the devotional on our Home with the Lord, the anticipation is grand,  but all will pale in comparison to the reward of being with our Heavenly Father!

Prayer
Most Loving God and Father
Thank You for each breath You allow
We offer You praise and thanksgiving for the time You’ve given us
Please help us make the best of it and bring You glory

Be magnified, Almighty King
As we anticipate spending eternity with You
Please give us Your heart to love others
Your eyes to see what ours alone cannot
And wisdom to understand what only our Holy Lord could impart!

In the Name of Jesus
Amen

About voicevessel bwc

First, and most importantly, I love Jesus Christ and I trust in Him as my Lord and Savior. I was raised in a Christian home by a godly dad and mom (who planned and had me in July before turning 42 in August), and 5 older siblings. My father passed away when I was 7 and my mother (who went to be with the Lord in 2005 at 81) never remarried. As a child, I was bullied at school, so I did not have many friends. I didn't want to tell my mom this because I knew she had enough worry being a widow at 50. I know what it is like to be lonely. As an adult, God showed me the value of His Friendship and has blessed me, too, with rich relationships with dear friends who also love the Lord. My husband and I (married 31 years as of 2020), have three wonderful, adult children and son-in-law as well as three darling grandchildren. Along with many others, my husband lost his job, but we refuse to be fearful or angry. The Lord has provided for us and we are so thankful for the opportunity to express gratitude through personal contact and occasional memories I share through writing. I believe the Lord has given me a venue to engage with others and a means to share His Word. Thank you for checking out my page. I hope you enjoy what you read. If there is anything positive or insightful in the devotionals (NOT CALLING MY WRITING "INSPIRED" by any means!), I give all credit and glory to Jesus Christ! On the other side of that, when something makes no sense, that's all me
