5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
6 In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths.
Do you remember any of the first times you were allowed to do something on your own? Do you recall a great sense of independence?
How about times you insisted that you were able to do something “all by yourself”, you tried and things didn’t work so well. A couple examples are pouring your own drink and having it spill everywhere or carrying your own plate at a picnic and wondering, while you stared at the upside down plate on the ground, how your parents managed to load up and carry theirs and yours, too, without anything dropping on the ground.
One of my first experiences of doing something “on my own” was when my cousin and I, about age 7, walked to the grocery store down the street from her house in Memphis to get a treat. One oversight was that we were barefoot on the streets of Memphis in the Summer! We were wise and knew what we were doing though!
All the way to the store, my little feet burned on that asphalt until I could barely stand it! Oh the sweet pain of impendence! We went in and got what we wanted. The cool floor of the grocery nursed our toasted toes as we walked around the store. We found what we wanted, enjoyed our snack on the way home and delighting in our freedom, neither of us mentioning one word about the scalding pavement to anyone!
Independence is not a bad word or concept.. As Christians need to know, recognize, admit and accept, that ours comes through the power of Jesus’ sacrifice. It is through subjection and surrendering ourselves, we are offered protection and provision by our King and Lord!
We fit under our Father’s Authority. Through the power of Almighty God, we have been freed from bondage. The shackles of sin have been broken.
Ephesians 1: 17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him:18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the Hope of His calling, and what the riches of the glory of His Inheritance in the saints,19 And what is the exceeding greatness of His power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of His mighty power20 Which He wrought in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead, and set Him at His own right hand in the Heavenly places21Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come:22 And hath put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be the Head over all things to the churc23 Which is his body, the fulness of Him that filleth all in all.
Almighty and Powerful God
We give You praise for victory in life
And conquering death
We pledge allegiance to You, our Father
To be true to You
To worship only You
Please reveal our idols to us
The depravity of our hearts
We ask in wanting to know
We will have the courage and obedience to lay aside all falling in contradiction to Your will for our lives
Knowing that You are a jealous God
As our Creator
You will not stand to have another in the place of our heart belonging to You
Only You, Merciful King
Have right to the throne of our heart
Please help us to choose You, O God
Not looking for the meaningless
But only to the One Who brings us Light and Truth
Help us to love You and others the way we should
Please speak into our hearts
We seek wisdom and understanding
Also, God, we want to use what You give us to learn more about Who You Are
And hearts of obedience
Let us use the talents You’ve given
To bring glory to You
Let us utilize our liberties while they still exist
To testify to Your greatness
Proclaiming You to those who will hear
Without regard to rejection or persecution
As for independence
We realize that comes through a relationship with our Redeemer
And at what a tremendous cost
Thank You for every blessing
Anything in our lives You have used or will, to bring us closer to You
In the Name of Jesus Christ
Onward, Christian Soldiers
God of Our Fathers
