44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for He maketh His sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
Let me ask, when you have gone outside during the day (or even in the evening), do you think the air temperature around you is any cooler more comfortable than others around you? Of course not.
Today, if you were to go out in the rain and an unbeliever was standing right beside you, would you both get wet, or would the rain drench that person and leave you dry?
These may sound like silly questions because they are. In the above Scripture, the Lord reminds us that just because we are Believers and have put our faith and trust in Him for eternal salvation, does not shield us from life situations.
Christians still get headaches, diseases, face financial difficulties and job stress. We are not immune to the pressures, tests or trials non-Believers face.
It does seem at times that struggling Christians witness un-believers advancing in their careers, enjoying excellent health and bragging about their child’s latest of many accomplishments.
To me, that has been a true test of my faith. I do not understand why there were those who could not care less about the Lord, enjoying life and living in abundance while others were serving Him and living a righteous life, only to have situations knock them down time and again! It is God’s providence allowing Him to maneuver creation however He sees best to bring glory and honor to Himself.
Nowhere in Scripture does the Lord promise the life of a Christian will be like living in a protective “bubble”. 1 Peter 4:12-13Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.
On the other hand, we have no idea how carefully we are monitored each moment by the Lord and the angels He assigns to watch over us. Psalm 91:11-12 For He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.
When I do stop and ponder WHY it is that WE don’t get shown more “favor” as God’s children than those who do not believe, our Loving Lord gently reminds me of 1 Corinthians 15:10 But by the grace of God I am what I am: and His grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.
Below is one “theory” I found on the matter of why good things happen to bad people. Again, this is only the idea of one author and it was from the Internet, so consider the source!
Why Do Good Things Happen to Bad Peopl
The wicked find success…
It seems like the wicked always prosper.
It happens in economics. The rich become richer and the poor become poorer. Evil men exploit the workers in efforts to produce a personal “gilded age.”
It happens in politics. Majorities tend to oppress minorities. Strong nations bully weak ones. Throughout human history, war never seems to end.
It happens in organizations. Bosses lord their power over employees. Workers steal from their employers.
It happens in relationships. Men beat their wives. People lie to get ahead. Friends take advantage of each other. We even have a name for that – “frienemies.”
Why does God allow them, not only to do these things but, to be successful in them?
… and success is their undoing
There is no truth in their mouth; their inmost self is destruction; their throat is an open grave; they flatter with their tongue. Make them bear their guilt, O God; let them fall by their own counsels; because of the abundance of their transgressions cast them out, for they have rebelled against you.
The wicked find enough to be satisfied when they find success in their wickedness. They don’t even recognize their need for salvation. God allows them to fall by their own success.
It happens in economics. If a man is an idolater because he loves money, God will allow him tosucceed in it to blind him from his true poverty.
It happens in politics. If a woman is an idolater because she loves power, God will allow her to succeed in politics to blind her from her true powerlessness.
It happens in organizations. If a man is an idolater because his self worth is in his company, God will allow him to succeed in business to blind him from his true needs. If a woman is an idolater because she loves her position at the company, God will allow her to climb the ladder to blind her from her need to climb out of Hell.
It happens in relationships. If a mother is an idolater because her identity is found in her kids, God will allow her great success as a parent to blind her from her own need to be called a child of God. If a man is an idolater because he only cares about sex, God will give him success at the bar scene to blind him of his need for the greatest pleasure – worship.
How should we respond to the success of the wicked?
We should rightly be outraged when the strong oppress the weak; when the rich oppress the poor; when men mistreat women. We should cry out to God for justice.
But when that justice comes in the form of more success we should not resent God for it – the blindness that comes from success leads straight to Hell.
Maybe we should pity them.
Lord, Thank You for the much-needed rain
The watering of plants
Giving the earth what it needs to grow fruits and vegetables for us
Thank You for cooling down the air and helping the breathing quality improve for those who had issues with that
For making it cooler, even if only temporarily, we will take that!
Please watch over each one as they travel home from work, school or wherever they are today.
Please keep us safe, Lord Jesus
Thank You for being that Safe Place for us, Father
Our Protector and Shield
Lord, please let us accept that You do RAIN on the just and unjust and that the sun beams down just as warmly for either as well.
It is by Your Power we can endure
Persevere to the end
To Hear You tell us
In the Name of Jesus,
Jesus Bring the Rain
How Great Thou Art
