1 Peter 1: 1-16
Peter, an Apostle of Jesus Christ, to the strangers scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the Blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to His abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the Resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,to an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in Heaven for you, who are kept by the Power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the Last Time.
Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations:That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the Appearing of Jesus Christ: Whom having not seen, ye love; in Whom, though now ye see Him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:
Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls. Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you; searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.
Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from Heaven; which things the angels desire to look into.
Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the Revelation of Jesus Christ; as obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance, but as He which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I Am holy.
Be holy? Impossible? Does the Lord call us to do something He does not equip us to obtain? I have to tell you, this Scripture makes me nervous, and I really do not want to attempt to interpret, lest I sound heretical in suggesting our state of “holiness”. That is something only the Lord can determine.
How do we reconcile being holy with this verse in Isaiah? (Isaiah 64:6 But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.)
Deuteronomy 7:6-9 For thou art an holy people unto the Lord thy God: the Lord thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth.
2 Peter 1:21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
Psalm 139:23-24 Search me, O God, and know my heart:
try me, and know my thoughts:
And see if there be any wicked way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting.
Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the Mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
1 Samuel 2:2 There is none Holy as the Lord:
for there is none beside Thee:
neither is there any Rock like our God.
Matthew 5:48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in Heaven is perfect.
Isaiah 6:3 And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of Hosts: the whole earth is full of His Glory.
I am unable to answer or translate any of these Words from Almighty God. These were simply brought to my attention for us to consider and pray about what the Lord is teaching us about holiness . It is mentioned often in Scripture. I didn’t even hardly scratch the surface. Please, if you feel God is leading you down a path to better understand this, seek His direction and listen to what He has to teach you about holiness. Learning is best accomplished with closed lips, opened ears and heart.
Holy God
Thank You for Your Word
Please teach us what You would have us to learn from these verses.
Lord, please put a yearning in our hearts for holiness
Teach us, please, what that means
And how, Father, we are to obtain it
We yearn to please You
Give us, please, a longing to obey
Thank You for the Blood of Jesus
Cleansing our sins
That we can stand before You
Covered and forgiven
Let us please seek forgiveness quickly and earnestly
For any and all sins against You, others and ourselves
Father, we carry Your Name as adopted children
Let us please realize the honor and responsibility that carries
We want those we encounter to know without a doubt, who our Father is!
Oh how we look forward to the fulfiment of Revelation 4: 8, when Your Word says
And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty, which Was, and Is, and Is to Come.
In Jesus Name
amen
